For centuries, women around the world have sensed a connection between the lunar cycle and their fertility. The terms "menstruation" and "menses" come from Latin and Greek words meaning month (mensis) and moon (mene) (Tan DA, et al., 2016). Research has shown that the lunar cycle and the average menstrual cycle are equal in length (Komada, Yoko et al., 2021) and an estimated "85% of women conceive during their Lunar Conception period, and only 15% -- during their regular ovulation (S. Ostrander & L. Schroeder, Astrological Birth Control, Prentice-Hall, 1972)." The term Lunar Conception period was coined by Eugen Jonas in the 1950s finding that a woman's fertility increases when the moon's phase matches that of when she was born. For example, he claimed that a woman born during a New Moon will have a greater chance of conceiving each month during that same time.

At the time when Rebecca was ready to start a family, she points out that, "My menstrual cycle began with the return of my natal moon, so I wasn’t sure whether I'd become pregnant since I was not aligning with the Jonas Method, but in fact I did. Interestingly, a friend of mine whom I share a birthdate with also became pregnant at the same time-- we had the same last menstrual cycle date and due date. From there, I knew it was possible to conceive outside of the Jonas Method."

In 2018, Rebecca made the decision to put her professional career in the public sector on hold and focus on her self, family, friends, home, and MOONCHILD. She established MOONCHILD LLC and set out to explore whether the position of the moon in relationship to the sun at the time of a woman's birth correlates with her reproductive system and monthly fertile window.

In Rebecca's words, "My educational background is in research so I'm always exploring the uniqueness of an event. When it comes to astrology, its application in a subjective manner can be quite healing on a collective level. The transition to motherhood is life changing and through astrology we can support the process. It is through tracking one's menstrual cycle alongside the moon that we connect to our cyclical nature and divine feminine energy of our sacred womb space."

Rebecca's own personal experience and educational background in research led to the creation of the MOONCHILD Method. By overlapping known last menstrual cycle dates and conception dates to natal moon phases for a sample of mothers, Rebecca Skorek found that pregnancies resulted when the mother's menstrual cycle started with the return of their natal moon with conception occurring approximately 12- 16 days later.

Through her case studies and personal experience, Rebecca believes one can conceive in all the moon phases, but that each person has a unique relationship to their natal moon that carries onward throughout life.

Rebecca states, "Over the last several years, I have seen a split between those that align with the Jonas Method, MOONCHILD Method or somewhere in between. For me personally, all three of my children were conceived during the same moon phase, which was identified through the MOONCHILD Method.”

More research is needed to determine how one's natal moon plays a role in fertility, and that is what Rebecca intends to do in order to increase the likelihood of conception through a natural path. Both the Jonas Method and the MOONCHILD Method can serve as useful techniques to conceive and place a special emphasis on the alignment of one's natal moon. Each month, the MOONCHILD app highlights Lunar Fertility dates, based on both the Jonas Method and the MOONCHILD Method, with regard to where one is in their menstrual cycle.
